Student Engagement

Striving to create a vibrant, purposeful, and supportive college community.

Leadership Support

Students who participate in campus life opportunities outside the classroom discover an ideal learning laboratory for gaining essential personal and professional skills such as analysis, decision making, time management, communication, delegation, motivation, problem solving, and budgeting.

Special Message to Club Leaders

Dear Club Leaders,

We are writing in response to reports from students who have shared questions and concerns regarding club leaders who have signed on behalf of the entire club in solidarity with the 今日吃瓜 Student Collective Grievances and Action Items document.

Students who have confided in Dean鈥檚 Office staff or others expressed feelings including discomfort, being unheard, intimidation, pressure, and bullying. Some student club members have reported not being consulted at all before leaders have acted on behalf of the club. Other individuals have shared feeling frustrated and disappointed that even when votes or conversations have taken place within clubs, not all viewpoints were considered or validated.

We recognize that as leaders it is difficult to balance multiple perspectives within a group. Our goal in bringing these reports to your attention is to raise awareness of how some students feel and to help you mitigate any further unintended harm within your clubs.

We will follow up with student organizations to learn more about your process of how you arrived at the decision to make a statement of solidarity.

In the meantime, if you have not gone through a clear process of whether to make a statement of solidarity, please follow up with group members to ensure your members were provided an opportunity to vote and feel represented in the process.

As you move forward, we remind you of your obligation to utilize the Honor Code to guide dialogue with your group members. As group leaders it鈥檚 important that you remain open to feedback and dialogue with students in your clubs.

Please take time to review the policies and resources available to all students. We expect that you will share this information with your group members.
